Republic of China Reforms

Republic of China Reforms

The economic reforms of China are referred to as the program involving economic changes within the Peoples Republic of China, also known as Socialism with Chinese characteristics. These reforms took place in 1978 by realists within the Communist Party of China then administered by Deng Xiaoping, and that these are still into existence as of the early 21st century. The main theme behind the formulation of the Chinese economic reforms was to build enough surplus funds for the modernization of the mainland China. While there were several attempts in the past made by the socialist command economy in conjunction with CPC conservations and the Great Leap Forward from socialism to communism by the Maoists, neither of them was able to generate sufficient funds for the same. The initial problem faced by the reform was to address the issues of workers and farmers in the context of building a larger surplus, as well as to remove economic imbalances from the command economies. The Republic of China reforms began in 1978, and since then had been able to rid millions of people from poverty; the poverty rate was reduced from 53% in 1981 to 8% in 2001.

The Republic of China reforms have been embarked upon by a series of phased reforms in response to the growing problems. In cases like when the state enterprises were to be closed down, the government was forced to do things unwillingly in the face of economic circumstances. Almost 70 percent of Chinas GDP is engaged in the private sector, while the public sector is engaged with about 200 state enterprises in the fields of utilities, heavy industries and energy resources.

Many people in the west regard the Chinese economic reforms as a capitalist economy; Chinese officials indicate that it is a pure form of socialism, with only a few reforms based on the favourable economic policies used in capitalist nations. One of the reforms of Republic of China also state that China should work on adopting things for ideological reasons.
